HomeSB 876

SB 876 could move through the NC House Rules Committee as early as Tuesday, June 16, and would dramatically change how Moore County conducts local elections.

This bill would:

  • Cancel our 2027 municipal elections and extend current officials’ terms by one year
  • Force all Moore County municipal and school board elections to become partisan beginning in 2028
  • Create new barriers for unaffiliated candidates by requiring a petition process to appear on the ballot
  • Make these changes without any request from Moore County municipalities and after Moore County was added to a bill that originally dealt with Rowan County

This is about more than party politics. It is about whether Raleigh should be able to rewrite the rules for how our communities elect their own local leaders without local input.

WE NEED ACTION TODAY. Please reach out to the contacts below before Tuesday 6/16.

Please:
✔ Call members of the House Rules Committee
✔ Email members of the House Rules Committee
✔ Contact Rep. Neal Jackson and Sen. Carl Ford
✔ Attend the Rules Committee meeting in Raleigh if you are able

The information below contains talking points, and ready-to-use email and phone templates. Hearing from currently elected officials will be especially meaningful when opposing this bill.

Please share this email widely with your colleagues and anyone who believes Moore County residents should have a voice in how our local elections are conducted.

A handful of phone calls and emails can make a difference, especially before a committee vote. Do not assume someone else will speak up.

We believe that this will be heard in the Rules Committee on Tuesday 6/16 at 2:30 pm.
If you can make it in person to this meeting to provide public comment it will be incredibly impactful. Please let me know if you plan to attend.

Thank you for taking action and helping make sure Moore County’s voice is heard.
