2024 Primary Election

The candidate filing period for the statewide 2024 primary elections begins at noon on Monday, Dec. 4, 2023, and ends at noon Friday, Dec. 15, 2023. Candidates file at the appropriate county board of elections office or State Board, depending upon the contest.

Voter Registration

The civilian voter registration deadline in North Carolina is 25 days before Election Day. Here are the voter registration deadlines for the 2024 elections in North Carolina:

• Feb. 9, 2024, for the primary election on March 5, 2024.
• Oct. 11, 2024, for the general election on Nov. 5, 2024.

Mail-in Voter Registration Applications

Your county board of elections must receive your completed application, postmarked by the voter registration deadline and received no later than 20 days before a primary or election. Otherwise, your application will not be processed until after the election.
